Never Thirst Again

There have been many times in my life when I did not recognize WHO I was speaking to. Oftentimes Jesus will show up in the midst of the storm and we do not see Him, because we are looking at the waves. This is what we are witness to in John chapter four when we meet the woman at Jacob's well in Samaria. The Eastern Orthodox church has given her the name Photini.

If we were to meet Photini today, I think she would blend in as one of us. She is a woman struggling in society to have her voice be heard. She is a woman living in the pain of her past and current decisions. She is a woman searching for hope and healing. She is you and she is me. Photini is a woman feeling DRY; searching for the refreshment of a new revelation about herself, and she is about to get it in the most unlikely of places. 

Photini, like us, was focused on her situation. I imagine she was ruminating on mistakes, lost in her thoughts, and wanting to be anywhere else. This seemingly rude man asks something of her, as all men do, and she protests. He talks about eternal water, and her curiosity is piqued. Then He says that He is the Messiah and her eyes are opened! Jesus reveals Himself to her, and in doing so she sees her truest self, but she almost missed it. 

Have your eyes been opened to who it is that you are speaking to or have you failed to see Him, because you are focused on the circumstances? I pray today you would focus your eyes on Jesus, not the situation you are in. May your eyes be opened to the new revelation of who you are as you gaze on Him. Jesus is in front of you. He is inviting you to partake of living water and never thirst again. Receive your refreshment! Receive your restoration! Gaze into His eyes and receive His unending love.
