Equipping Driven Women to Achieve More Without Living Exhausted
Â
You don't need more information about yourself...
Â
You have already researched and analyzed - on repeat. You've listened to the podcasts, read the books, attended workshops, and even went to therapy for awhile. You can talk about your attachment style, your childhood trauma, your reactive patterns, where you need to enforce boundaries, and your nervous system response to perceived threats. You recognize the patterns and think you know the why behind them.
Â
And yet, when stress, conflict, rejection, fear, or overwhelm activates an old pattern, you find yourself doing the very thing you said you wouldn't do again. Your behaviors seem to run on auto-pilot when the heat gets turned up. You have learned that willpower alone is not enough to change these subconscious patterns.
Â
From the outside, it seems you have it all together. Only those closest to you might suspect your struggle. They don't see the internal tension that drives your actions; the self-doubt, the performance mentality, the fear of being found imperfect. You feel the pressure of having a successful career, running a home, managing schedules, and trying to keep up a social life. You realize that you can no longer ignore the gap between your responsibilities and your current capacity.
You are a whole person, not a collection of issues...
Â
Think of a tree—the whole tree, not just the part you see.
Â
The seed is the foundation that gets planted and begins developing roots during childhood. Those roots are shaped by what you experience, what you are told, what you observe, and - perhaps most importantly - what you come to believe about yourself because of those experiences. The roots become the subconscious beliefs underneath everything else:
Â
"I’m not enough. I have to be perfect. My needs don’t matter. I can’t trust people. I have to handle everything myself."
Â
The trunk is how those beliefs become part of the way you move through life - your nervous system, emotional patterns, expectations, and ways of interpreting what happens around you.
Â
Then come the branches, leaves, and fruit: the things you can actually see. Anxiety. People-pleasing. Anger. Avoidance. Perfectionism. Shutdown. Overthinking. Relationship patterns. The way you react when you feel rejected, criticized, overwhelmed, or out of control. Most approaches focus on the fruit or expression of the seed. You try to change the behavior, challenge the thought, manage the emotion, or learn new coping skills.
Â
Those things can absolutely be helpful, but typically not sustainable. If the root system remains unchanged, then the same patterns can keep growing back. Remember that the root is subconscious beliefs, not the behaviors.
Â
This is one way to understand what makes working with me different. The modalities I use help us access the experiences and memories that built your beliefs. You aren't simply trying to willpower your way out of the belief. You're going back to where the belief took root and allowing your brain to update what it learned.
Â
In-depth modalities (EMDR, Somatic, & Bioenergetic) and extended session times (75 minutes) give us the space to work through your beliefs, the emotions stored in your body, and current patterns of coping.
Susan Spissman
After 5 years practicing traditional talk therapy I realized it was only a piece of the healing puzzle. In my own journey I had spent 20+ years in and out of therapy - talking about the same things and getting nowhere. It wasn't until I experienced EMDR that I began to feel a difference.
Because of that experience, I learned to think outside the box. Therapy with me is NOT a "one-size-fits-all" approach. I now incorporate multiple evidence-based modalities, depending on what the client needs: EMDR, neuroscience, nutrition/fasting practice, holistic/somatic experiencing, mindfulness/guided imagery, and more.Â
 What brings you in today?
ANXIETY
Â
Anxiety can feel like you’re never completely off duty. Your mind keeps scanning for what might go wrong, replaying what you said, worrying about what you should have done differently, or jumping ahead to everything that could happen next.
Even when life is going well, it can be hard to fully relax because some part of you is waiting for the other shoe to drop. You may look calm on the outside while feeling tense, restless, overwhelmed, or exhausted on the inside—like your brain and body are constantly bracing for something that hasn’t happened yet.
TRAUMA
Â
Trauma can show up in everyday moments, long after the danger is gone. You may find yourself reacting more strongly than you want to, shutting down when things feel overwhelming, staying on guard, or feeling disconnected from yourself or the people around you. Sometimes you know logically that you’re safe, but your body doesn’t seem to believe it. You may avoid certain situations, struggle to trust, or wonder why something that “shouldn’t be a big deal” affects you so deeply. It can feel like a part of you is still responding to something that happened then, even while you’re trying to live in the here and now.
