One Foot in Front of the Other

"One foot in front of the other. It's just one foot in front of the other," she told herself as she began the risky ascent up the mountain. Everyone thought she was crazy to attempt such a feat, but she believed it was possible. Others had gone before her and succeeded, so why not her? According to them, she was not equipped for the hardships of the journey. Who were they to tell her what she was capable of?! 

Many women on the entrepreneurial path have been told that they are climbing a mountain too difficult for a woman. Maybe not with words, but the look on their face says it all. Other times, it is our own thoughts that attack us: "Who do you think you are? This is too difficult. No one else (in the family) has done this! It would be easier to get a job." Either way, for women in business the obstacles go beyond the typical "start-up costs." We have more to consider than advertising, equipment, and incorporation fees. 

Before starting anything we examine it all - the kids' schedules, finances, time commitment, what will my husband say, what will others say, will I be viewed differently, how will I make it all work, do I even know what I'm doing - the list is endless! It can feel like an impossible mountain to climb when you are at the bottom looking up. However, all it takes is putting one foot in front of the other. Step by step, action by action, you start ascending. 

One step, "I can figure this out," then another, "I am capable." Give your brain evidence to back up your claims. Write down previous achievements and scriptures to build your confidence. Remember that building is a process, which is not completed overnight. Celebrate any and all progress, no matter how small it feels! Pray for divine connections with people who can help you. Remain focused on God, not the circumstances. When you believe in yourself, then others will believe in you too. Go for it!
